It kinda hit me in the gut in the subconscious level and I would love to see a burn in the state I grew up in. I tried to make it to Interfuse a couple years ago but I didn't have the balls to go by myself, or the ride. Now I am on my feet and would like to meet some peops from my area and see If I can make it to the next gathering. I see that Lawrence is a hot spot and I have been their many times on family trips to Clinton Lake. I am in Ballwin/Manchester and need to find some peops who wouldn't mind helping me get to our regional burn, or anything related. Thanks for reading.

We're looking for help with the ESD (Emergency Services Department) @ this year's Recycled Rainbow. Just looking for people to take shifts playing the role of medic, which may involve putting on band-aids, treating burn wounds, fixing scrapes or bruises. Anything major would require us to call an ambulance or one of us would drive the wounded person to the hospital. We need two more medics to fulfill our needs (you don't have to be an MD or a paramedic or an RN, but if you got SOME medical credentials, give us a holler.)

For those of you who haven't had a chance to look, there are tables to sign up for gate greeting, rangering and fire performance in the database section of the Orphanarium Yahoo! group. I'm really excited to see how things are coming along. I appreciate all of the help from the leads stepping up to the plate while my internet access was down due to my computer kicking the can.

Our effigy is going to be freaking sweet this year. Joe and Scooba have been busting their butts to put together something so sweet and kickass that you will run in fear after seeing this thing come to life. That's right, Domo-Kun himself is emerging from the ground, breaking away from his TV for a bit to visit us for Orphanarium v2.0 "The Nerd Burn". We will be burning his ass down saturday night with a full fire procession immediately before.

I am excited to see Kokopelli's coming as well as the HATEDOME coming this year. I hear that DJ Scoob will be spinning at HATEDOME so you can shake your groove thing all night long. If you are planning a theme camp, let us know so we can get the word out before hand.

Most of all, I'm very excited that this is our second year with the new name, and it's going to be bigger and better than ever. I can't wait to see everyone next week. If you have any questions about anything, shoot me an email or put one on any of the lists and I should have it answered as soon as possible. Remember to educate your guests, remember your emails, remember to clean up your MOOP, and most of all remember to have a damn fun time. Until then......

I hope everyone is getting ready for what's going to be an awesome event, Orphanarium v2.0! From projections I've heard we should have a great turn out this year. I know we've got a decent size contingent of Kentucky Burners coming up as well as people from all over.

For those of you that don't remember this event is 18+ on the weekend of August 14-16 at beautiful Ozark Avalon. Admission is $15 at the gate per person, and you must either be a member of Midwest Burners or be sponsored by a member. This event is not sanctioned by Midwest Burners, but this is one of our requirements. Remember sponsors that you are responsible for your guests so educate the hell out of them! If you are not yet a member of Midwest Burners you can become one by going to www.midwestburners.com Make sure to print out your email stating you are a member when you receive it and bring that copy with you.

I know we are going to have a blast this year. The effigy is going to be amazing and we are going to have a great time. After talking with my leads I will have more info as to schedules for rangering and gate work. I know Bittersweet already has a table posted for sign up of gate times on the Yahoo! group. If you're not a member of the Yahoo! group and need to be added to any of the schedules, just send me an email offlist. I can't wait to see everyone out there for another awesome year.

Deadline for Applications 4/24

President Obama has offered up his multi-bazillion dollar stimulus package and rather than wait around to see if it takes, Burners Without Borders is offering a stimulus package of its own. Over the years, we have learned that real change starts at the grassroots level and sometimes it just needs a little boost to get going. Well, BWB is taking $5,000 of your generous contributions from this past year to help jump start civic projects in your neck of the woods.

We are hoping to stimulate a lot of projects and are offering awards from $100-$1,000. It's simple. Gather your community, find out what you care about, and let your imaginations run wild. The deadline for submissions is 4/24. You can check out the details and fill out a simple application at http://www.bunerswithoutborders.org.

We are here to support you in making your project a success. We can help you get the word out to the appropriate networks in your community and are happy to help you brainstorm ideas-just send an e- mail to projects@burnerswithoutborders.org.

After talking with several past participants, this thing is slowly working it's way to being a 'nerd burn'. I've heard suggestions for Speed Racer on a big screen and everything else. Also thoughts of a nerdy giving tree, with duplicates of gaming things and comic books. Suggestions? Comments? Events? Let me know as you guys come up with things. This is gonna be so freakin' fun I can't stand the thought. Just wait til you see what we have in store for the effigy this year.......

WELCOME HOME! (big digital hug)

Aldric here. I wanted to post some updates on current InterFuse 2009 doings and plannings (FYI)...

Theme Camps

Theme Camps are getting registered daily now. What's really interesting is that some of them are listing their own websites for additional information, just like you'd see in Burning Man's handouts. This is a great way for Theme Camps to self advertise, group plan, and stir up participation before InterFuse even begins.

All four Big Sound Theme Camps have now been registered (we're only allowed four). Big Sound means they use large, powered PA systems to produce high volume sound and music for the InterFuse masses. Registration for Big Sound Theme Camps is now closed, but you are still encouraged to register any other kind of Theme Camp. Registration is just another way of saying it gets listed online and printed in the Front Gate handout. Registration is not required, but hey, it gets the word out!

Check it out: http://www.midwestburners.com/interfuse/themecamps.html

Volunteering

InterFuse is literally run by volunteers, giving their time to accomplish various odd jobs in short shifts - like greeting new arrivals at the Front Gate for a few hours, or helping The Leisure Army move things around Ozark Avalon as necessary. Help build the Main Effigy!
Decorate the Sea Serpents effigy! Volunteering is a lot of fun and you always get to meet boatloads (aquatic theme reference) of new people. There are currently eight kinds of volunteer positions open.

New to InterFuse and don't know anyone? Volunteering will fix that, guaranteed.

Check it out: http://www.midwestburners.com/interfuse/volunteer.html

Events & Performers

The Schedule Of Events is also growing daily. Keep an eye on this to plan your days and nights at InterFuse. When Tickets go on sale in mid-March, this list will explode with new events and performances. These will also be printed in the Front Gate handout.

Why wait? Beat the rush and get YOUR event listed. There's a form at the bottom of the Events & Performers page.

Check it out: http://www.midwestburners.com/interfuse/eventsandperformers.html

The Main Event

The Main Event page is now full of information about the Sea Serpents effigy, the Pre-Burn Fire Performance, The Burn, and how you can participate.

Check it out: http://www.midwestburners.com/interfuse/mainevent.html

2009 Theme: Aquatic Inferno

The theme gives InterFuse an overall style and artistic direction. You can use the information on the Theme page in many ways: costume ideas, camp decoration ideas, performance inspiration, art projects... Use the theme as you wish or come up with your
own. It's up to you.

Check it out: http://www.midwestburners.com/interfuse/theme.html

The Front Gate Handout

Good news! The handout you will receive at the Front Gate (the one with event lists, art lists, Theme Camps, rules and camp map) is getting a facelift. More pages, bigger print. No longer will you be standing in the dark with a penlight muttering, "I knew I should have brought the magnifying glass."

Tickets

InterFuse 2009 tickets are now at the printer. Just imagine those giant printing machines churning out sheet after sheet of beautiful InterFuse tickets. The Ticket Fulfillment team is in full prep mode. As long as the Postal Service doesn't go out of business, we're set.

Complete ticket information including price and availability will be posted very soon.

See you in 63 days, 21 hours, 42 minutes, and 47 seconds,

Elevation is Recycled Rainbow’s theme for 2009, encouraging our participants to rise above their limitations, capabilities, and complacency towards boundless levels of creativity once thought too high to reach.

To reach Recycled Rainbow, travel to East Rochester, Ohio which is over 430 feet above Cleveland’s elevation. When you’re finally home, go far beyond the entrance, up and up, further than the ponds slipping far beneath you, outward passed all the grassy hills and trees, reaching for the sky, beyond and above the tree tops now behind you, forget about them, upward you go, to the biggest most elevated patch of the campground, already inspiring an upward sensibility, outward thinking, beyond your comfort zone, further than familiarity. You are at Recycled Rainbow … welcome home!

“Our elevation must be the result of self-efforts and work of our own hands. No other human power can accomplish it. If we but determine it shall be so, it will be so.” - Martin Delany (the first African American field officer in the United States Army during the Civil War. )

Elevation denies the default, like steam evaporating from water in nature, your consciousness raises upwards toward unexplored perception, ideas leap outward from your curious mind, beyond the barriers of your personal inhibitions, and further than your body allows.

Elevation denotes more than movement. It is uplifting, never looking down. Encouraging: to manifest into reality that which was previously imagined. Refreshing: having something new to share created by you.

If you can do your own lifting, you are lifting others as the higher elevation lifts us all.

“The human soul, as a part of the movement of life, is endowed with the ability to participate in the uplift, elevation, perfection, and completion. ” - Alfred Adler (a 19th century Austrian psychologist who was one of the three founders of depth psychology)

Creation requires elevation!

Upward, outward, beyond, and further….
My truck is running great. The Mechanics have yet to write a bill. I owe them something someday soon (Drop your car off at a shop for two weeks. Know the parts ALONE are over $200.00, and pick it up without paying...from strangers in a new City?!!!!), but they are cool beyond belief!
Military has no School date yet. I work 50 hour weeks at 9 bucks an hour in a hard job, and yet I'm learning. Things I don't want to learn, but I'm growing in ways unexpected.
Once on orders, I'll road trip (Aviation Tech Schools at Keesler and Wichita) to Mississippi and Texas before settling back in Missouri.

I'd like to move to Colorado and just write someday. I've had an extraordinary life and want to tell the stories. Hell...I'd LOVE to be paid to tell stories!

Enterprise Rent a Car placed an additional $150.00 on my Debit card for a deposit in KC Feb. 4. I booked through Expedia. It was an unexpected add on.
It overdrew my Bank of America account the max (5 times at $35.00 per day). It killed any Budget I had...and I budgeted down to $20.00.
I got $87.50 back after two days calling up several layers of Corporate stoppers.
At one point I said "Look. You have been my Bank since 1976. I took my Daughter to open her first account with her first paycheck with you. This is the time I need you the most! And...after seeing you receive Billions in Bail out funds, which you used to acquire Merrill Lynch, you are charging me $35.00 for several Tim Horton's lunches at 6 bucks a pop and a pack of smokes for $1.75?!"

I knew a year ago I was in a time of change. It actually started leaving Colorado. It's weird growing up at Fifty, but there is soo much more.
I have also failed.
I guess, my thought here, is a Blog I need to write about the 'Ignore' button (No one is on mine).
When you stop communicating, when you block dialogue/shut of discourse/choose to stop engaging, trying, listening...
You hate.
Divide.
Deny God/Life/Whatever.

The next step is getting everyone jazzed to create and participate in every possible way at the InterFuse 2009 Kickoff!

The event basics are below. Please check out the Midwest Burners Event Calendar
to see the driving map and use the RSVP link.
InterFuse 2009 Kickoff
Saturday, January 31, 2009
7:30 PM - ?
Johnny's Tavern
Overland Park, Kansas

It's time to kickoff the 2009 Burn season with good drinks, good food, and good Burner company at Johnny's Tavern in Overland Park, Kansas.

We're simplifying things this year. Instead of eating at one place and then moving to another for drinks, we've combined things in a single establishment. Johnny's has a full menu, two full bars, and plenty of parking.

We've reserved Johnny's back room so there's plenty of space and tables for a large gathering. Just tell the door greeter you're looking for Midwest Burners.

The InterFuse Kickoff has become a yearly, informal tradition where we kick around new InterFuse ideas, hash out art concepts, plan theme camps, discuss camping arrangements and meet new friends. If it's about InterFuse, it's fair game.

Bring paper and pen. You're definately going to want to write something down, or draw your InterFuse camp layout, or sketch some burnable art ideas, or pass along your email address...

---------------

You can read the entire invitation and use the map and RSVP links here:

Columbians, you can meet everyone in the middle! Kansas Citians, you have no excuse at all!
Unless other lodging are recommended, I found a Super 8 motel that is 1 mile from Johnny's, 50$ for a single queen room, 55$ for a room with two queens. Nearly close enough to walk, fore sure close enough for a cheap taxi!
You’re welcome to stay the night, as there is plenty of space. Slumber party! Bring a pillow and bedding at the very least and an air mattress if you really want to be plush. There is plenty of parking around the building.

I thought I'd post this here just in case anybody from Midwest Burners wants to participate. We're having elections for a 3-burner moderator group in the main Burningman tribe that started yesterday. I'd like to cordially invite you as one of the candidates to get in there and rock the vote!

Tired of the trolls, the sock puppets, the alts, the drama in the main tribe? Well, we're being aided by Tribe helpdesk in this effort, and they're monitoring both the election and the tribe now, so we're well on the way to returning to YOU, the Tribe burner, the main BM tribe!

You owe it to yourself to get in there and VOTE!

Thanks for your participation in advance. Find the thread for selecting the new moderator tribe. We've also got some profiles on the individuals, too...

Thanks, and now I return you to your regularly scheduled activities.......

I've also been promoting Midwest Burners in most of my other tribes. Love you guys!

While working on his DPW Beast (Suburban truck), a belt slipped and the fan blade cut off the top of the middle finger on his heft hand. Doctors at the hospital spent 8 hours trying to save it. He's lost some finger bone and they are hoping the skin graft will take. If it doesn't, they may have to shave off some more bone down to the first knuckle.

He's at home now and on a personally prescribed, brew-based pain therapy.

This isn't slowing him down though. In a few days he's flying down to Texas for military training and will be driving back to New York with a pit stop in Kansas City next weekend (Dec. 7th). Pish has agreed to a Burner gathering at her house (in KC) in his honor... or maybe in honor of his finger.

Kamikazi is without Net access (and typing ability) at the moment, so I'll be posting the formal party invite here and on the MWB Yahoo group in a day or so.

I had a lot of fun all weekend, as I hope all who attended did as well. I loved seeing so many people out there participating and showing what this community is all about. Just a huge thanks to Rain, Lohr, and Pickle for heading up this event. Another huge thanks to all my fellow leads out there, who did a great job making stuff happen. And yet another huge thanks to all those who volunteered, brought out some art, and ran a theme camp. I think with all these thanks, it includes everyone who came to event, so many participates, just too many names to list, we all know who came to Gateway and we all did a great job. I can't wait to start planning the next Gateway.

We aren't the only ones dancing, we'll just be the only Belly Dancers. I think there will be about 7 or 8 other performances with Vesuvius closing the show. It all start around 6:30 at the park by Roanoke Community Center (you can google the name since I don't have the exact address) and goes to about 9 or 9:30 This is free for the public and afterward Vesuvius will be leading us up to Once and a Blue Moon on 39th and we'll be hosting an after party with life music till about 11. Hope to see a lot of friendly faces there.

Wow, where do I start? You guys helped make this one of the most memorable burns I've been to. First off I would like to thank Bittersweet for doing a spectacular job with the gate at such short notice. Mad Hatter for being my Lead Ranger and helping keep us all safe for the killer burn last night. Of course the pair of them and the refreshment that was another installment of Kokopelli's Coffee. I dunno what I would have done without you guys this morning. Next I would like to thank my effigy crew, Scooba Steve and Joe. You guys blew me out of the water with your design, construction and most of all the effort that you put in to making such an awesome effigy. For you folks that weren't there, I'm sure you'll see pictures, but they will do it no justice to the awesomeness that was Bob. To the Louisville crew, thanks for making the haul and providing us with a sweet sound camp. You guys were so much fun. Wessex, the hookah, enough said. Stryd'r and the mead, I can't believe how amazing pineapple mead can be, no matter how long it takes to kill it. To all of the new Columbia Burners I met this weekend, we have got to plan some meet ups with everyone. To Gaius and his camp of amazingness, wow. 100 year old wine, single malt scotch, amazing cous cous, the list goes on. Oh, and we can't forget the pumpkin pie hookah on friday night, courtesy of both Gaius and Katie. To OA for having such an amazing and safe place for us to burn. To Strawberry for coming out, It's been way to long but I'm so glad you made it. To everyone for making this such an amazing burn, and not being MOOPy peoples. I can't wait for next year. I think it was a good indication when I walk in the door and the wife says 'you stink, take a shower and then we'll talk' that we had an amazing time. I know there were a lot of cameras running around and video as well. Please feel free to post your stuff and let us know. I can't wait to see it all. Lastly, to Mother Nature, Thank you for letting us have at least my first burn and a lot of other peoples first burn at OA with no precipitation and amazing stars everynight. I hope everyone makes it home safely and has a great teim until our next burns coming up. You guys are all amazing. Much love to everyone and happy Burning until we meet again..........
