Interfuse Questions from a Virgin

topic posted Sun, April 27, 2008 - 10:42 PM by
Greetings, Midwest Burners!! Some of the following questions are probably answered somewhere in this Tribe or on the site, but my explorations thus far have yet to turn them up, I missed them somehow, or I just thought of them in the middle of writing this email. In any case, I apologize for the annoyance, but I'm curious and excited!!

1) Is there a swimming area at Interfuse? If so, please describe!
2) Is there anything a first-time Interfuser should know? I'm an experienced Burner.
3) What's the anticipated turn-out this year (I assume this is something like .90 x Y, with Y being # of tickets sold?)
4) Is there a sweat lodge, and if so, will it be active and in use during the event?
5) What weather should I expect? I'll be prepared for anything, but I've heard that it's typically humid during Interfuse and there'll be temps of 60/40 and a 20-50% chance of rain most days this year.
6) What % of participants wear costumes, and how much glowy bling is worn at night?
7) What's the insect life like there? I'll be prepared for anything being a Texan, just interested...
8) Are there camps that do a community kitchen thing? Our Texas group will be self-sufficient, but it's fun sharing meals and I'd be up for donating some bacon or burgers or such to the community.
9) What are your favorite activities at Interfuse? Or what were they last year?
10) Anything else you want to tell me? LOL

Again, sorry to bother you with questions that I might have been able to find answers to elsewhere, and apologies for the late date in asking these questions. I've been so busy planning for Flipside and the Playa that I just now got around to getting crazy excited about Interfuse!! Woot!!!!!

Appreciatively, Interfusingly, and Seeya-in-a-few-daysingly,
Major Tom

    1) Is there a swimming area at Interfuse? If so, please describe!

Yes. The entire site will be 6' underwater by Friday. You may want to bring a canoe.

    2) Is there anything a first-time Interfuser should know? I'm an experienced Burner.

    Bring a Bible.

    3) What's the anticipated turn-out this year (I assume this is something like .90 x Y, with Y being # of tickets sold?)

Ticket sales were projected to cap out at 900, but Zay only allowed sales for 24 hours and refuses to sell more, so we are maxed at 56 tickets or attendees this year.

    5) What weather should I expect? I'll be prepared for anything, but I've heard that it's typically humid during Interfuse and there'll be temps of 60/40 and a 20-50% chance of rain most days this year.

    See 1)

    6) What % of participants wear costumes, and how much glowy bling is worn at night?

100% of the participants will either be wearing something or be totally nude. Chase's penis glows in the dark.

    7) What's the insect life like there? I'll be prepared for anything being a Texan, just interested...

There are no Ticks. Really. Feel free to roll in the tall grass. What appear to be Ticks are really Republican embeds. A new moral monitoring bug. It may look like a Tick and act like a Tick, but it's NOT a Tick!

    8) Are there camps that do a community kitchen thing? Our Texas group will be self-sufficient, but it's fun sharing meals and I'd be up for donating some bacon or burgers or such to the community.

    One word. Chili!!!!!!!!

    9) What are your favorite activities at Interfuse? Or what were they last year?

The 6:30 AM morning 'Cat Scratch Fever' wake up call followed shortly by the PBR beer can obstacle course avoidance callisthenics's.

    10) Anything else you want to tell me? LOL

For the Bible Belt...the Porn is of the highest quality!!

    Hope this helps

      1) Is there a swimming area at Interfuse? If so, please describe!
      *Lake Gaia is wonderful.

      2) Is there anything a first-time Interfuser should know? I'm an experienced Burner.
*Be ready for rain and mud. ;) It's certainly a different environment from the desert.

      3) What's the anticipated turn-out this year (I assume this is something like .90 x Y, with Y being # of tickets sold?)
*I have no idea how many tickets were sold. But I do know *a lot* of people still want tickets. No dice though.

      4) Is there a sweat lodge, and if so, will it be active and in use during the event?
*There was one last year. Not sure if they'll be back or not...but it was wonderful. Very cleansing.

      5) What weather should I expect? I'll be prepared for anything, but I've heard that it's typically humid during Interfuse and there'll be temps of 60/40 and a 20-50% chance of rain most days this year.
*Expect anything. We're in Missouri. ;) But really...rain, cold, humidity, heat....you never know.

      6) What % of participants wear costumes, and how much glowy bling is worn at night?
*I'm not a costume wearer, but there are those that love that stuff. Some people dress up...some people strip off. ;)

      7) What's the insect life like there? I'll be prepared for anything being a Texan, just interested...
      *Ticks.

      8) Are there camps that do a community kitchen thing? Our Texas group will be self-sufficient, but it's fun sharing meals and I'd be up for donating some bacon or burgers or such to the community.
*There are tons of camps who share and love the community thing.

      9) What are your favorite activities at Interfuse? Or what were they last year?
*Naked relay race. Jello wrestling. Just being there. ;)

      10) Anything else you want to tell me? LOL
*Be ready for love. Our community is beautiful. I love all these people.

Most everyone answered, but I thought I'd pass along some thoughts

    1) Is there a swimming area at Interfuse? If so, please describe!

Too f'ing cold to swim in Early may in missouri. Temps peak at 80 degrees if you are lucky, but closer to the 60s/low 70s. And the lake is spring fed, and already chilly from spring. so no luck. They do have some canoes though

    2) Is there anything a first-time Interfuser should know? I'm an experienced Burner.

We drink alot of hooch out here since hydration isn't a concern in Missouri. We gots water and lots of it.

    4) Is there a sweat lodge, and if so, will it be active and in use during the event?

Someone brought one last year, and there is supposedly a hutch on site in the woods somewhere. but I haven't heard of any plans this year.

    5) What weather should I expect? I'll be prepared for anything, but I've heard that it's typically humid during Interfuse and there'll be temps of 60/40 and a 20-50% chance of rain most days this year.

Expect rain and sun. In alternating copious quantities. I always get wet, and I always get sunburned.

    6) What % of participants wear costumes, and how much glowy bling is worn at night?

It seems my first year (2004) had a much higher percentage in costumes, but it could be merely newbie hypnosis. People mostly wear their freak flags on Saturday, but enough people are in costumes/burner gear to make it cool. Not enough though sometimes!

    7) What's the insect life like there? I'll be prepared for anything being a Texan, just interested...

This time of year most of the critters are still waking up. Except for ticks. I never had a tick problem though, and I usually wear a bit of OFF just to be sure. Misquitoes aren't out yet (but by late may, they're there...)

    8) Are there camps that do a community kitchen thing? Our Texas group will be self-sufficient, but it's fun sharing meals and I'd be up for donating some bacon or burgers or such to the community.

Kopekellis sure is doing something. Check the website for info.

    9) What are your favorite activities at Interfuse? Or what were they last year?

Binge drinking for three days in the woods.

    10) Anything else you want to tell me? LOL

Come by the HATE DOME for a drink. but only if you got cash. Its the only cash bar on site.

    5) What weather should I expect? I'll be prepared for anything, but I've heard that it's typically humid during Interfuse and there'll be temps of 60/40 and a 20-50% chance of rain most days this year.

Being prepared for anything is important. I told Ese layers and rain gear. Last week the daytime highs were in the 70s, but it got to the low 40s, if not upper 30s last night! I think this cold weather the past day or two just means it will be hot as hell this weekend, but one never knows. MO really has finicky weather.

    6) What % of participants wear costumes, and how much glowy bling is worn at night?

    Not enough!

    7) What's the insect life like there? I'll be prepared for anything being a Texan, just interested...

I've rarely had a problem, but I put on the bug stuff when hiking through the woods. I'd be more worried about running into thorn trees!

    8) Are there camps that do a community kitchen thing? Our Texas group will be self-sufficient, but it's fun sharing meals and I'd be up for donating some bacon or burgers or such to the community.

There's a potato dinner Thursday for the effigy opening. Potatoes will be provided, but people should bring toppings or other foods to share. There is a potluck dinner Friday and Saturday, from the fine folks at Kokopelli's, who will provide you with coffee whenever you want it, and some crazy good pancakes Saturday morning. Think there is a Spam breakfast at the Hate Dome Saturday as well.

    9) What are your favorite activities at Interfuse? Or what were they last year?

Watching the nude relay race is pretty funny. Getting clean in the outdoor showers at the frog bog is always refreshing. Dancing to surprise big name djs is a treat, but they don't have to be well known to play groovin' tunes! Bonding with folks if you get trapped somewhere due to a torrential downpour. Hearing the trains in the distance, as well as the coyotes.

    10) Anything else you want to tell me? LOL

What happens at IF stays at IF.

Yes, ice is the only thing that actually costs money at IF... For obvious dietary needs.

The HATE bucks can be printed on your very own printer... See Gen. Loofa for your complementary link to said bucks.

HATE BUCKS are the only currency (other than visa, mastercard and american express {but not discover} ) that is accepted. www.skojar.net/images/hatebucks.pdf
BUT you can print yer own! Fuck the man! Help yourself.

And yes, please note the spam breakfast. I have picked up
                      8 tins of spam
                      2 tins of bacon spam
                      1 tin of lite spam
                      1 tin of turkey spam

that will be turned in sandwiches and given out at the SPAM BREAKFAST.

Where should I send this question to FAA / Homeland Security?

Is Spam considered a liquid? I'd like to bring 2 tins in my carry on luggage as donation ...

I think it's a solid that goes straight to gaseous form ....

all this spam talk makes, is making me hungry for some spam, can't wait for IF and can't wait for some spam on Saturday, mmmm

Oh and general rule for Missouri and camping at OA that i have come to discover, it will rain, we have planned something outdoors, just the logic of Missouri, want it to rain during a heat wave, plan an outdoor activity. also bring several changes of clothes, and socks, sunscreen and bug spray is good too, but bugs should not be to bad yet, especially with all the cold snaps we keep having, oh extra towels to help dry off, and because someone will forget a towel, beer, and beer, and bacon is good, I cooked up 4lbs to bring with me today for the Hate Dome, oh and if you smoke, bring plenty of smokes, you will smoke more then you expect, because when you binge drink, you binge smoke

Also, I am made homemade tomato soup, which will be served at the Hate Dome Friday evening with grilled cheese sandwiches, sometime after the PBR Cup challenge, people are welcome to stop by for a bowl, but it most likely will cost some Hate bucks, because it is Hate Dome food.
Only a few more days left must focus on getting stuff done, if only I did not have work and school, I would have it all done and be sitting here waiting to leave.

I'm also an Interfuse newb, but I was at OA the weekend after Interfuse last year and I was nearly eaten alive by mosquitos in the evening, to the point where I got all woozy and had to lay down. I was even wearing long sleeves and pants, they were biting me through the cloth, and they were big ass mosquitos! But, like Katie said, we've had some cold snaps, so hopefully that'll decrease their numbers.
